wheres the best steelhead fishing on the ausable?
I’m new to fly fishing, and would love to do some on the Might AuSable river in MI. I’ve read alot about it, and i keep reading that the lower part towards lake huron is great for steelys expecially these next months. I just dont know where exactly that is as i havnt been to that area really. So if your willing to share with me the names of the citys or township areas, and maybe some bridges and what not of where may be good access points i would be very greatful. THX
im think that maybe i didnt specify enough im looking for steelhead mostly expecially now. and i will be wadding not in a boat or float raft
Access from the Peer at the mouth of the river to foot dam take a day and look it over fish on warm winter days now till may ?? June July the Au Sable from Grayling east better with a boat in the winter

Are you locked in to the Au Sable?
Most of the steelheaders there will not be flyfishermen. And will see you as getting in the way, particularly if you’re new to it.
On the other hand, the fly-only water of the Pere Marquette would better meet your needs. Other anglers will also be flyfishermen, and more willing to lend you a hand and show you the ropes.
The fly water extends downstream from the M-37 railroad bridge, just outside of Baldwin.

Am not familiar with your state but, thumbs up ta’ Brook E for his advice ie., best that ya’ fish a different locale/area. I drift fish for em’ and 99.9% of the time a’ flyfisherman/woman will find a better place for the flyrod versus fishin’ with other ppl’s usin’ conventional tackle. Good luck and hold onto that rod when ya’ hang a’ Steelhead;)…< ‘ ( (( > <
Note: Ain’t never caught a’ Steelie with fly gear but, I betcha’ it’d be a’ kick n’ de’
